Tiling around a Bath Tub: How do you get the perfect finish with your tiles?

Tiling around your bath tub can be a great way to refresh your entire bathroom without doing too much work or spending too much money. Nerang Tiles has created an easy quick guide on what you will need to think about before diving into a bathroom renovation or tiling around your bath tub.

Tiling steps

2. Prepare your tiling area. Before you start laying tiles and glue, make sure that your walls and floors around the bath area are clean and dry. The tile glue needs to stick well to the wall and floor to ensure there is no future damage to the tiles. Please make sure you remove also and flaking paint, wallpaper or anything else that would prevent the wall from being super smooth.
3. Measure up. We also need to measure the areas to be tiled to ensure we have the right number of tiles.
4. Double check the tiles. We also needs to double check the size of the tiles to estimate whether we will need to cut any and if so what sizes.
5. Laying glue. When laying your adhesive make sure you use a 8 to 10 mm trowel with a rubber based or rubber polymodified glue that is resistant to water and will provide some flexibility to account for any movement in the substrate. Use your trowel’s grooved edge.
6. Lay the tiles. When laying your tiles press them firmly into place at the meeting point between the floor and the bath tub. Make sure that the tiles sit flush against the bath tub. If you have purchased spacers, then use these in-between in corner of the tiles to maintain equal distance in grout joints between all the tiles.
7. Cutting tiles. If you need to cut any tiles, the best way to do this is to measure the tile first by laying it against the full tile next to where you have to cut and marking the overlapping section of the tile with your marker.
8. Grouting. After laying the tiles and waiting overnight for the glue to dry it is time to grout. Spread the grout over the entire area using a rubber trowel, make sure to force the grout into the joints. Let the grout cure for a minimum of 20 minutes then use a large damp sponge to wipe the grout from the surface of the tiles to leave a clean tiled area.
9. If the sponge as collected any grout from in-between the joints then refill these quickly.
