Measure The Area You Want To Tile

For each area you wish to tile, measure the width and the length of the area. 

Multiply the width by the length to botain the square meter quantity required. 

If you have an oddly shaped area, complete the task above in segments. This can be done by splitting up the room into square or rectangle formats and then adding the square meter quantity together to obtain the total quantity required. 

Calculate How Many Tiles Per Square Meter

Obtain or measure the width and length of the tiles you want to place in your chosen area. 

Multiply the width by the length to calculate the square meter quantity per tile. 

Divide the total square meter area of the room by the square meter quantity per tile to obtain the number of tiles required for the room.

Order the Right Amount Of Tiles

As a minimum you will need the square meter quantity of the room. 

Tiles are generally sold in cartons that have various square meters depending on the size of the tile and place of manufacturer. your tile store will round the required quantity to the closest carton size.

It is common and expected to have wastage, damages and cuts during installation. The general rule is to allow a minimum of 10% extra for this purpose. This may increase depending on the type of pattern, site conditions, shape of the tile and more factors. Speak to your professional installer for advice on what additional allowance above the room area is required. 

It is not unusual to find two to three percent of boxed tile to be broken or chipped, and manufactures consider up to five percent acceptable. This is due to the natural inherent characteristics of tiles. You can use damaged tiles where they can be cut to size. it is expected that a tiler should inspect your order and set aside any damaged tiles for cuts.
