What is the difference between porcelain and ceramic tiles?
In short, how and what they are made of results in the difference between porcelain and ceramic tiles. Porcelain Tiles – Are made via a dust pressed method which uses a composition of synthetic materials. Porcelain tiles are fired at extremely high temperatures which provide the body of a porcelain tile with a superior dense and impervious fine grained tile. Ceramic Tiles – Are composed of organic clay based materials fired at lower temperatures than porcelain tile. But wait there is more. Porcelain tile also comes as a glazed porcelain tile. This type of tile combines the benefits of both the durability of porcelain and the low maintenance, colour range and lower production cost of ceramic tiles. Glazed porcelain tile provides an additional protection to tile by sealing the surface with a micron thick layer of glass.
