How to Cut Kitchen Tiles
Whether you’re tiling your kitchen splashback or the kitchen floor, it is more than likely that you will need to cut a few tiles. Cutting to size or too fit a power point, your cuts will vary each time. Measuring and cutting tiles for your kitchen is not difficult as long as you have the proper equipment and some basic training / practice. If you are cutting your own tiles through a DIY project then Nerang Tiles recommends that you organise an additional few tiles to allow for any off cuts/wastages. How to make a straight cut on a porcelain tile What you will need A pencil Tile cutter Protective goggles Protective gloves And of course the tile itself Measuring tape Step 1 Using a pencil, draw a line where the tile needs to be cut. Make sure that when you measure where the cut will go you account for the grout joints. This means you should cut the tile slightly smaller (2-3mm) to allow for even grout joints with the other non cut tiles. Step 2 Place the tile in the tiler cutter so that your line on the tile aligns with the tile cutters lever system. Step 3 Push down the tile cutter lever. This should deliver a clean and evenly cut tile. TO CUT A SHAPE What you will need A pencil Tile cutter Protective goggles Protective gloves And of course the tile itself Measuring tape Step 1 Using a pencil, draw a line where the tile needs to be cut. Make sure that when you measure where the cut will go, you account for the grout joints. This means you should cut the tile slightly smaller (2-3mm) to allow for even grout joints with the other non-cut tiles. Step 2 Use the tile cutter to score/scratch the lines that you have drawn that are to be cut. This will scratch the surface line of the tile and create a break point for the tile.
